Every client has different goals, which is why Millheim Honey Company offers two primary management options.

MHC-Owned Hive Leasing

Want bees on your property without purchasing or personally maintaining the colonies?

Our hive leasing program allows qualifying properties to host beehives that remain owned and professionally managed by Millheim Honey Company.

We handle the ongoing responsibilities associated with the colonies, including inspections, seasonal management, colony health, queen performance, feeding when necessary, equipment needs, and other management decisions.

Hive leasing can be a great option for:

Management of Client-Owned Hives

Already own your beehives—or want to own your colonies while having a professional manage them?

Millheim Honey Company also provides full-service management for client-owned colonies.

You retain ownership of your hives and equipment while MHC provides the professional management necessary to maintain the colonies throughout the year.

This option is ideal for clients who want the long-term benefits and ownership of their own apiary without having to perform every inspection, make every management decision, or handle the day-to-day responsibilities themselves.

Client participation can vary depending on your goals. Some clients prefer to leave management entirely to us, while others want to learn and be present during certain inspections.

When should another box be added? Does a colony need supplemental feed? Is the queen performing adequately? Are mite levels becoming a concern? Is a colony preparing to swarm? Does a hive have enough resources to make it through a dearth or winter?

Millheim Honey Company does not guarantee that placement of beehives will qualify a property for an agricultural valuation or tax treatment. Property owners should confirm eligibility and requirements with their county appraisal district.

Honey Harvests

When colonies produce surplus honey, harvest arrangements depend on the type of management agreement, ownership of the colonies, location, season, and individual client plan.

Not every colony will produce harvestable honey every year. Weather, rainfall, forage availability, colony strength, drought, extreme heat, and other environmental conditions can significantly affect production.

Colony health always comes before honey production.

When a harvest is appropriate, Millheim Honey Company can coordinate the removal, extraction, handling, and processing of honey according to the client's management agreement.

Property & Apiary Requirements

Before accepting a new management location, we evaluate whether the property is suitable for long-term hive placement and efficient management.

Properties should generally provide:

• Safe and reliable access to the apiary
• Appropriate hive placement
• Adequate vehicle access when necessary
• Sufficient space around the colonies
• A suitable environment for honey bee activity
• Permission for MHC personnel to access the colonies for scheduled and necessary management

Because consistent management requires significant travel, equipment, and time, minimum hive requirements apply to our management programs.

Not every property will be a good fit, and Millheim Honey Company reserves the right to determine whether a proposed location can be safely and effectively serviced.
