The Bee Yard is a Go — 100% Approved!

We're making history at Tarleton State University.

We are beyond excited to announce that Millheim Honey Company has officially received 100% approval to move forward with the bee yard project at Tarleton State University! After weeks of communication, planning, and plenty of late-night emails, the final confirmation was sent — and it’s a done deal.

This means everything we’ve been working toward — from conversations with faculty, research into university protocols, and dreaming up how to bring bees to campus — is becoming a reality. It’s a big step for our company, but also a meaningful one for pollinator education, agricultural outreach, and hands-on learning opportunities at Tarleton.

What’s Next?

Now that we’re cleared to move forward, the real work begins:

  • Cleanup & Prep: The designated site will be cleaned and prepped over the coming weeks. It needs to be a safe and accessible space for both bees and people — so we’ll be trimming, hauling, and making the area functional. This is the foundation of everything that follows.

  • Gathering Materials: From hive boxes and fencing to bee suits, feeders, and signage, we’ll be collecting the equipment needed to bring this space to life. Every piece plays a role in creating a safe, educational, and well-managed bee yard.

  • Planning for Installation: Once the space is prepped and materials are in place, we’ll begin building out the site and preparing to introduce our first colonies. This will likely take place in phases, but we’re already buzzing with anticipation.

Why This Matters

This project isn’t just about placing a few hives on campus — it’s about creating a lasting, educational resource. The bee yard will serve as a place where students can learn more about agriculture, pollination, sustainability, and the vital role of bees in our food systems. It will provide research opportunities, community outreach potential, and of course, support our mission of protecting pollinators.

As a student-led small business, this is also a proud moment for Millheim Honey Company. We’re proving that with enough persistence and passion, you really can make things happen — even while balancing college life and entrepreneurship.

We’ll be sharing regular updates as this project moves forward — everything from site prep photos to build days to the first bees arriving. If you’re as excited about this as we are, make sure you’re following along on Instagram and Facebook (@millheimhoneycompany), and keep an eye on our blog for behind-the-scenes content.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. The future is bright — and buzzing.

Stay sweet,
— Cade
